AI Coach & Technical Mentor, Team Lead

Role Overview

Metric5 is seeking an AI Enablement Consultant to coach and mentor federal employees in the practical application of traditional and generative AI. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong communication and instructional skills to guide agency teams in integrating AI capabilities into their existing large-scale data infrastructure, aiming to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse. Rather than building solutions directly, the consultant will leverage their technical expertise along with strong relationship skills to build rapport and trust with federal technical leadership and enhance their knowledge, confidence, and independence in managing generative AI products and workflows. Success will be measured by the uplift in the federal team's understanding, skills, and applied outcomes.

In addition to client-facing responsibilities, this role will help guide the strategic corporate AI direction for Metric5 and will guide and mentor 2-3 other AI Coaches and Technical Advisors within the company.

How This Role Differs from Typical AI Roles

This role is not focused on building generative AI solutions for the agency—it’s about building the agency’s internal capacity to do it themselves. Unlike traditional AI roles that prioritize model development or product delivery, this position centers on coaching and mentorship, helping federal employees understand, apply, and manage traditional and generative AI within their agency’s context. Success is measured by the knowledge uplift and practical confidence of the federal employees. It blends deep technical expertise with a strong human-centered, instructional skill set—rare in most AI job descriptions.

• AI Expertise (Practical & Applied)

  • Practical experience using AI models to solve use cases in fraud detection or management.

  • Deep understanding of traditional AI aand GenAI models, frameworks, and other techniques and methodologies with an emphasis on feasibility and scalability.

  • Experience coding, fine-tuning, and deploying GenAI models (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Transformers, LangChain , MLOps and LLMOps)

  • Experience delivering and deploying GenAI models in a large enterprise setting

  • Knowledge of responsible AI development and ethical use

• Coaching & Mentorship Expertise

  • Demonstrated success in coaching technical teams and individuals

  • Skilled in designing and delivering practical, hands-on learning

  • Adapts approaches based on skill gaps, learning styles, and team progress

  • Practices active listening, empathy, patience, and persistent support

  • Assist stakeholders in understanding the potential and limitations of AI when planning, designing, and implementing new products or applications.

  • Provides guidance and mentorship to other AI Coaches and Technical Advisors, fostering their professional growth and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality coaching services.

• Federal Environment & Consulting Context Acumen

  • Experience navigating federal IT, compliance, and data policies

  • Skilled in managing client relationships and structured consulting engagements

  • Ability to align AI work with procurement and organizational dynamics

  • Understanding of data lake architecture and its implications for generative AI integration

  • Ability to advise on AI/data alignment, security, and governance in federal data ecosystem

• Product Thinking & Use Case Strategy

  • Experience managing AI product lifecycle and use case development

  • Skilled at translating stakeholder needs into actionable GenAI solutions

  • Familiarity with validation, prioritization, and iterative design

• Professional & Consulting Execution Skills

  • Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Diagnoses technical/product issues and supports problem-solving

  • Takes initiative and provides support without heavy direction

  • Contributes significantly to Metric5's overall AI strategy execution, providing insights and recommendations to shape the company's long-term success in artificial intelligence.

Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required. Masters Degree or higher preferred.

Salary Range: $145,000 - $175,000 annually

Location: Remote within the United States. This role will require monthly travel to Baltimore, MD

Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust/Suitability, which includes a requirement of U.S. residency for three out of the last 5 years
