Metric5 is looking for a motivated Lead Technical Engineer.
The ideal Lead Technical Engineer will have hands-on experience supporting operations and modernization projects with responsibilities spanning solution architecture, infrastructure engineering, team leadership, customer interfacing, and hands-on infrastructure/software coding and problem solving.
As Lead Technical Engineer, you will be the lead technical expert supporting IT on-prem infrastructure operations, a cloud transition to Azure, CI/CD pipeline operations, application development, and legacy systems operations across four project teams. In this role, you will be involved in all critical aspects of application and infrastructure support from end-to-end. You will be working closely with other development, operations and maintenance (O&M) and support teams as well as other stakeholders to develop and optimize our environment. A successful candidate will need to have a strong understanding of IT infrastructure, protocols, security, and automating operations. The ideal candidate will already have many years of experience performing such duties at the enterprise level and be able to work in collaboration with a distributed workforce.
This is both a leadership position and a hands-on technical position. The successful candidate will work directly with customers throughout all stages of the operations and development lifecycle to implement maintenance and application enhancements. You have a passion for architecture, leadership, and hands-on development. You are agile and retrospective, and not afraid to identify what we are doing wrong so we can fix it, and what we are doing right so we can improve on it.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineer for multiple teams including both software development and IT infrastructure teams
- Provide subject matter expertise in implementing, administering, and supporting the following: Angular/Java-based applications, distributed systems, storage, cloud, APIs, database, and networking technologies
- Work with teams to deploy code in production environment and debug /troubleshoot critical production issues
- Actively participate in Agile release and sprint planning, sprint grooming, artifact creation, sprint testing, demonstrations and retrospectives and solution releases
- Execute other activities related to development work, such as participate in meetings, provide briefings, presentations and other support materials that will promote the program, assist in achieving user buy-in, and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Meet deadlines for project deliverables
- Communicate both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner with strong analytical troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Work flexible hours and be available to work non-standard hours during scheduled maintenance and emergencies
- Support business development efforts on the corporate side and provide people management responsibilities.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of hands-on experience leading and supervising SMEs and highly proficient IT professionals in day-to-day operations
- 5+ years of experience supporting maintenance, configuration changes, and upgrades to infrastructure
- 5+ years of experience working with Java, JavaScript, Angular and Spring Boot
- 5+ years of experience providing technical infrastructure expertise in defining and implementing strategies to ensure security, scalability, availability, redundancy, cost optimization best practices, automation, business continuity, and overall functionality, of on-prem and cloud infrastructure
- 5+ years of experience actively monitoring, optimizing, and responding to mission-critical infrastructure issues and incidents to maintain overall health and security of infrastructure services. Includes supporting the communication and resolution of outages
- 2+ years experience delivering automations to provision, configure, manage, and monitor cloud infrastructure services
- 2+ years of experience with unit and integration testing of code, with an understanding of JavaScript testing frameworks like Karma, Mocha
- 2+ years experience with experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Experience with JIRA or Redmine Agile Lifecycle Management software
- Experience mentoring the infrastructure team on best practices and procedures
- Ability to research, gather, and analyze system requirements with an understanding of architecting cloud native solutions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization, including with C-Suite government executives (e.g., CISO, CTO, CIO, etc.)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced technical environment with increasing infrastructure support demands and complexity
Education: Bachelor s Degree
Years of Experience: 7+ total years of experience
Salary Range: $150,000 - $190,000 annually
Location: Primarily remote with 1-2 in person meetings per month in the Washington DC Area. Washington DC Area location preferred.
Clearance: Must be a United States Citizen and have an active Public Trust (or higher security clearance) for this government position.
